About ISO 45001:2018 (Occupational Health and Management System)
ISO
45001 Certification is a worldwide accepted ISO standard from 2018 that
specifies requirements for an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS),
the objective being to safeguard the Health and Safety of employees in the Organization.
In
developing the ISO 45001 Standard, references have been drawn from the earlier standards
(OHSAS 18001) and consideration has been given to the content of other
international standards, the International Labour Organization’s “ILO –OSH
Guidelines” as well as to the ILO’s International Labour standards and
conventions (ILSs).
The ISO
45001 is designed to enable organizations to demonstrate their commitment
towards providing a Safe and Efficient working environment by identifying and
understanding their OHS risks and by improving upon their performance by
actively managing these activities.
The ISO 45001 standard is applicable
to all organizations, regardless of size, industry or nature of business. All
organizations, public or private, small or large, will have hazards that can
have an impact on Health and Safety of workers. These can range from the known mechanical or chemical hazards, to more
modern issues such as the risks from nano-particles, radiation or workplace stress
ISO 45001 shares the new common structure defined by
Annex SL and it is directly aligned with the 2015 versions of ISO 9001 and ISO
14001, thus aiding the progress of integrated
management systems, called IMS.
The ISO 45001:2018 standards follow the
Plan-Do-Check-Review cycle, with focus on continual improvement.
